The tradition
What is Vedic astrology?
Vedic astrology, or Jyotish, is the astrological tradition of India. It reads a birth chart (kundli): a map of the sky at the minute and place you were born. The sign rising in the east becomes your ascendant (lagna), the Moon's position gives your Moon sign (rashi) and birth star (nakshatra), and the nine planets (grahas) fall into twelve houses, each governing a part of life.
Two things set it apart from the astrology most Western readers know. It uses the sidereal zodiac, measured against the fixed stars, which today sits about 24 degrees from the tropical zodiac of Western horoscopes, so your Vedic Sun and Moon signs are often one sign earlier than the ones you know. And it has a calendar of life periods (dasha): a sequence of planetary periods that says not only what a chart promises, but when.
Our free birth chart shows your chart, divisional charts and life periods. The sample report shows what a reading composed for one chart looks like, and the daily Panchang shows the same calculations at work on today's sky.

Questions
Asked often
What is Vedic astrology?
Vedic astrology, or Jyotish, is the astrological tradition of India. It reads your birth chart (kundli), a map of the sky at the minute and place you were born, through the sidereal zodiac, and it times events with a sequence of planetary life periods called dasha.
How is Vedic astrology different from Western astrology?
Western horoscopes use the tropical zodiac, tied to the seasons. Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, tied to the fixed stars, which today sits about 24 degrees away, so your Vedic Sun and Moon signs are often one sign earlier than your Western ones. Vedic astrology also gives the Moon and the 27 birth stars (nakshatras) a central place, and its life periods (dasha) say when the themes of a chart come into play.
I was born outside India. Can I use Aadityay?
Yes. Every chart is calculated for the place you were born, in that place’s own time zone and with its own daylight-saving rules, anywhere in the world. The Panchang and festival pages also give timings for cities abroad.
What do I need to get my birth chart?
Your date of birth, your time of birth (to the minute if you can) and your place of birth. The time matters most: the ascendant changes about every two hours, and the houses with it.
What is in the detailed reading?
Seven chapters composed for your chart: your ascendant, Moon and Sun; all nine planets; the twelve houses, the yogas present and five divisional charts; a six-month review and the twelve months ahead; Saturn, Jupiter and the Rahu–Ketu axis; your annual chart; and remedies with three auspicious windows. Your questions are answered together in a chapter of their own. The sample report shows every section.
How much does it cost, and how is it delivered?
One payment of ₹1,100, with no subscription. The reading arrives in your account within 3 to 12 hours and stays there for you to come back to.
Are the free tools really free?
Yes. The birth chart, compatibility, Moon sign, ascendant, birth star, Manglik, Kaal Sarp, career and Panchang tools need no account and no payment.
Is my birth information private?
Yes. It is used only to calculate your chart and is never sold or shared. Payment is handled by a regulated payment gateway, and we never see your card details. The privacy policy sets out the details.
