What is the Venus mahadasha?
Venus (Shukra) rules love, marriage, comfort, beauty, the arts, vehicles and luxury. Its mahadasha lasts 20 years, longer than any other, so for most people it shapes a large part of adult life. It follows the Ketu period and is followed by the Sun's. Shukra ki mahadasha is often a time of relationships, pleasure, creative work and material comfort, but how it unfolds depends on where Venus sits in your chart and which houses it rules.
Venus mahadasha effects by house
Venus in the 1st house. Charm, looks and confidence come forward. Tradition reads this as a pleasant, sociable period, with comfort and attention from others.
Venus in the 2nd house. Money, family life and good food. Savings and family ties tend to grow, and speech becomes softer and more persuasive.
Venus in the 3rd house. Creativity, media, short travel and siblings. A good period for artistic work, writing, design and building a following.
Venus in the 4th house. Home, vehicles, property and inner peace. Tradition links it to a better home, a new vehicle and closeness with the mother.
Venus in the 5th house. Romance, creativity, children and learning. One of the warmest placements for love affairs and creative success.
Venus in the 6th house. Work, health and rivals. Comforts can come through service and daily work; care is needed with indulgence and health.
Venus in the 7th house. Marriage and partnership. The classic period for marriage or for a closer bond with a spouse, and for business partnerships.
Venus in the 8th house. Sudden change, shared money and the hidden. Gains can come through a spouse, inheritance or research; tradition advises steadiness.
Venus in the 9th house. Luck, travel, teachers and dharma. Fortune tends to favour you, with long journeys and support from elders and mentors.
Venus in the 10th house. Career and public standing. Strong for careers in arts, beauty, hospitality, fashion, media and luxury, and for recognition.
Venus in the 11th house. Gains, friends and wishes. Income and a wide social circle tend to grow, and long-held wishes can be fulfilled.
Venus in the 12th house. Pleasure, expenses, foreign lands and rest. Comfort, travel abroad and spending rise; tradition advises keeping an eye on the budget.

Remedies for the Venus mahadasha
When Venus is weak or troubled in a chart, tradition suggests honouring it on Fridays, chanting “Om Shum Shukraya Namah”, worshipping Maa Lakshmi, giving white things such as rice, curd or white clothes in charity, treating the women of the family with respect, and keeping yourself and your home clean and beautiful. Gemstones such as diamond or opal are a stronger step and should be worn only after the whole chart has been read, not on the Venus period alone.
Questions about the Venus mahadasha
How long is the Venus mahadasha?
Twenty years, the longest of the nine Vimshottari periods. It comes after Ketu and before the Sun. If you were born in it, your first Venus period is shorter, because part of it had passed before birth.
Is the Venus mahadasha good?
Venus is a natural benefic, and its period often brings comfort, love, beauty and money. How it works for you depends on Venus’s sign, house and strength in your chart and on which houses it rules for your ascendant. For Capricorn and Aquarius ascendants, Venus is the yogakaraka and its period is counted among the best of a lifetime.
Does Shukra mahadasha bring marriage?
It often does: Venus is the significator of love and marriage, especially when it rules or sits in the 7th house or is linked to it. Whether and when marriage comes in your Venus period depends on the 7th house and the antardashas within it, which the detailed report reads.
Which antardasha in Venus mahadasha is best?
Tradition often favours the Venus, Mercury and Saturn antardashas, since those planets are friends of Venus, but it depends on your chart. Where each sub-period lord sits and what it rules for you matters more than the general rule.
What are the remedies for a weak Venus?
Traditional remedies include honouring Venus on Fridays, chanting "Om Shum Shukraya Namah", worshipping Maa Lakshmi, giving white things such as rice, curd or white clothes in charity, and keeping yourself and your home clean and beautiful. Gemstones such as diamond or opal should only be worn after the full chart has been read.
