Where the animals come from
Vedic astrology divides the sky into 27 nakshatras, or birth stars. Your birth star is the one the Moon was in when you were born, and tradition gives each one an animal: fourteen animals in all, most shared by two birth stars. Families have used these animals for centuries when matching couples, to read natural chemistry.
The animal is real astrology; the personality lines are our playful take on it. For the full story of your birth star, try the free nakshatra calculator.

How the pair score works
When you compare two birthdays, the game uses the same animal score that traditional matching uses, worth 4 points: the same animal scores highest, friendly animals score well, and natural rivals (like cat and rat) score lowest. It is one of eight areas in a full match; the Vedic love calculator scores all eight.
Questions
What is my nakshatra animal?
It is the traditional animal of the birth star the Moon was in when you were born. Enter your birthday above to find it; a birth time helps on days when the Moon changed birth star.
Is this the same as a spirit animal?
It is the Vedic version: an animal from your birth chart rather than one you pick. The personality lines are written for fun.
Do I need my birth time?
Usually not. On a day when the Moon moved from one birth star to the next, the game asks roughly when you were born.
Is my birthday saved?
No. It is used once to find the birth star and is not stored.
